How's your work going?
Are you currently under-employed?
Is your job getting replaced by AI/Automation?
Have you been unemployed or struggling to find “work” for more than 6 months?
Are you looking to transition to a new career?
Are you struggling to find motivation at “work”? Are you feeling stuck?
What is Anchor Guides!?
Work as we know it is changing. Automation and other societal forces are displacing human workers at an alarming rate. What is the future of work? In 2023, tech layoffs were more than 2022. Video games layoffs follow suit. The LA Times layoff shocked many amid an election year.
Anchor Guides! Is a unique “workforce” coaching program that is designed to redefine the way you think about “work.” “Work” is an expression of who we are. Each of us holds unique values, needs, boundaries and skills that are authentic to us. Sure, we “work” to pay for our mortgage, our streaming subscriptions, and children’s education, but let’s not forget it is 8 hours of your day!
Another component of Anchor Guides is thinking about “work” more expansively. How can your “work” help create a thriving local community? How can your “work” explore your personal curiosities or parts of yourself not yet known? Anchor Guides! Will do the labor to help you make these connections, including people, communities, and opportunities. Are you interested in working together?

Hi there! I’m MJ. To me, the point of life is to be a witness to your own evolution and personal transformation.
Recently, I was producing a podcast episode, where I invited three individuals who have lived experience with substance use, mental health issues, and incarceration. I was listening to them speak, sitting on the couch across the room, silently wiping away tears. Their stories were transforming me, not in ways one might think. It wasn’t about their “sad stories” or “stories of injustice.” But the tears came from me realizing that I’ve also had a role in perpetuating the dynamic of dehumanizing homeless and mentally ill people. Deep humility settled in after.
Coming home to myself is going through the death and rebirth cycle of unlearning and continuing my quest for truth. This is how I define work.
I want to help you define “work” because I’ve seen firsthand how the right “work” which aligns with the person’s needs and values transform people’s lives.
Through work, I seek to understand life better and thus my role in it. Work allows me to engage with the full spectrum of human existence. Through work, I connect with the vast network of human wisdom, intelligence, and experiences. I studied Film and Media studies as an undergraduate student because I saw storytelling as a connecting piece to this human experience. After my disillusionment with Hollywood and the entertainment industry, I became a social worker to provide services to people in communities historically and systemically under-resourced.
And after 15+ years of serving people, I want to serve you. If you struggle with work, like many thousands of people right now, you’ve arrived at the right place. Let’s get to “work.”
